memory enhancing supplements
Its compound is known as an AMPAkine due to exerting most of its actions via the AMPA receptor (one of the three main subsets of glutamate receptors, alongside NDMA and kainate). This enhancement of AMPA function seems to also rely on enhancing signalling via the Glycine binding site of NMDA receptors, although one minimal signalling goes through the NMDA receptor then the benefits on AMPA receptors seem dose-dependent.
Sunifiram (DM-235) is a piperazine derived ampakine drug which acts as a positive allosteric modulator of AMPA receptors, and has nootropic effects in animal studies with significantly higher potency than piracetam. A number of related compounds are known, the best known being unifiram (DM-232). This enhancement by sunifiram is associated with an increase inphosphorylation of AMPAR through activation of protein kinase II(CaMKII) and an increase in phosphorylation of NMDAR through activation of protein kinase C α (PKCα). More specifically, sunifiram stimulates the glycine-binding site of NMDAR with concomitant PKCαactivation through Src kinase. Enhancement of PKCα activity triggers to potentiate hippocampal LTP through CaMKII activation.
Sunifiram improves cognitive deficits via CaM kinase II andprotein kinase C activation. Unifiram is a positive allosteric modulator of your AMPA receptors (also known as 2-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid receptors). As an Ampakine, Unifiram effects glutamate uptake in the brain causing better synaptic transmission between neurons. Unifiram also stimulates acetylcholine production making its mechanism of action very similar to Noopept, Pramiraceta, Oxiracetam and other racetam nootropics. There has been less research into Unifiram than its counterpart Sunifiram, but these two chemicals are closely related and believed to work in almost identical ways.
Unifiram is a highly potent AMPAkine-like nootropic with antiamnesic and cognition-enhancing effects in animal studies at up to three orders of magnitude higher potency than piracetam. User reviews and Sunifiram logs point to the fact that this supplement makes information recall much easier and helps you think more clearly. Sunifiram is being compared to Noopept quite a bit because of their similar potency levels. Initial observations suggest that Sunifiram is better as a memory booster while Noopept might have an edge on increasing focus and alertness.
Like the Racetams, Unifiram is believed to improve learning, memory, concentration, mental energy and basic cognition. We know that increased levels of glutamate and acetylcholine improves the health of your brain cells and makes it easier for neurons to send signals between them. This can result in better processing of information, more clarity of thought, anti-amnesiac effects and improved attention span.
In initial studies, Unifiram seems to offer significantly stronger results compared to other nootropics, however more studies should be conducted before this supplement enters widespread use. The first studies on Unifiram were only published in 2002 so research history is quite limited. That being said, what we do know from the studies that have been conducted so far is very exciting. In a research trial conducted on rats exposed to a Morris Water Maze, a small dosage of Unifiram was able to reverse the effects of an amnesiac drug administered to the rats. Taking Unifiram increased their ability to remember the right path to navigate the maze and also improved performance on a social learning test.
